WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Hockey East announced Monday that University of Maine freshman forward Ida Kuoppala has been named the league's Prom Ambitions Rookie of the Week for her performance against Merrimack on January 17 and 18.

The native of Pedersore, Finland found herself to be the deciding factor in the Black Bears performance against Merrimack on January 18, where she scored a pair of goals. Her first goal tied the game at 1-1 when she fired home a wrist shot from the face off circle. Her second goal ended up being the game winning score, which she tallied on a short-handed breakaway to give the Black Bears their tenth win of the season.

This is Kuoppala's first weekly award of her collegiate career.

The Black Bears head out on a road trip where they will face off against UConn on Friday, January 24 at 6:00 P.M. and Saturday, January 25 at 3:00 P.M.
