Men's Track Kicks Off Outdoor Season With Strong UNH Finishes

DURHAM, New Hampshire—The Black Bears men's track and field team kicked off the outdoor season at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday.
Opening the afternoon with the 200 meter dash, Andrew Clement won the event at 22.35, followed by Mozai Nelson at 22.50. Clement also took the 400 meter dash at 50.35.
Andrew Smith earned second 100 meter dash at 11.40 with Mitchell Budroe finishing behind him at 11.46. Ethan Orach took second in the 1500 meter run at 4:02.97.
Junior Branden Kuusela took first in the 400 meter hurdles at 56.06. Griffin Madden, Camden Cleathero and Colton Santoro took third through fifth respectively in the 100 meter hurdles.
The 4x100 relay team finishe in second, with Andrew Smith, Griffin Madden, Zachary Westman and Andrew Clement finished with a 44.36 final. In the 4x400, the relay group took first, with Clement, Michael O'Clair, Kuusela and Cleathero finished at 3:28.13.
In field events, William Green took first in the pole vault with a 4.25 meter finish. Sophomore Sam Bonnevie took fifth with a 3.95 meter mark.
Zachary Westman took second in the long jump at 6.75 meters, with Kyle Jacques finishing behind him at 6.49 meters in the event. Westman also earned a second place finish in the triple jump at 12.96 meters.
Sebastian Osborne took first in the discus throw at 42.73 meters after taking fifth in the shot put at 13.82 meters.
Isaiah Allen took second in the javelin throw at 54.89 meters, with Zach Andrews finishing in fourth behind him with a 47.11 meter throw.
The Black Bears compete again this weekend at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge in New Haven Connecticut, running Thursday through Saturday. Select runners will head to the Ocean State Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday and Saturday.
