Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Teams Place Fourth at Maine State Meet

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's swim and dive teams competed at the Maine State Meet, where they each placed fourth.
On the men's side, the team of Andy Sprague, Jacob ketch, Kevin Arpin and Liam Blair got the Black Bears started off with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.09). Sprague would later on place sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.84). Quintin Cheadle placed fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:48.82). Arpin placed eighth in 100-yard freestyle (48.59). Kazu Temple finished with an eighth place and a ninth place finish. The team of Sprague, Arpin, Temple and Liam Blair would finish with a fifth place performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:13.09).
The men would wrap up the weekend totaling 288.5 points.
On the women's side, the team of Ines Khiyara, Sarah Mansfield, Kayle Loughman and Emma Blair would start the Black Bears off with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.91). Rita Chen placed third in the 50-yard butterfly (26.47), while Emma Blair (27.02) and Caroline Strolic (27.16) placed sixth and seventh respectively. Sabrina Nuttall placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke (30.43). Khiyara finished in fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.19). Chen put together a sixth place performance in the 50-yard backstroke (28.42).
The team of Strolic, Chen, Nuttall and Khiyara placed second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:48.78). Khiyara kept up her strong day, as she placed 2nd in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.53), while Kayle Loughman finished in 3rd (1:07.78) in the same event. Loughman also placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.46) and Morgan Bui placed sixth (2:29.75) in the same event. Emma Blair placed second in the 100-yard IM (1:00.77) and Rita Chen placed fifth (1:01.73) in the same event.
The women would wrap up the weekend totaling 468.5 points.
In a mixed event, the team of Liam Blair, Sabrina Nuttall, Andy Sprague and Ines Khiyara placed fifth (3:46.15) and the team of Caroline Strolic, Kazu Temple, Rita Chen and Kevin Arpin placed sixth (3:49.78) in the mixed 400-yard medley relay.
Both the men's and women's teams will be competing against Bowdoin College on Saturday, January 18. That event is scheduled to begin at noon.
