Jeremy Swayman Named to Watch List for 2019 Mike Richter Award

CHANHASSEN, MINN. - University of Maine Black Bear goalie Jeremy Swayman was among 20 goalies named to the watch list for the 2019 Mike Richter Award, Let's Play Hockey announced on Thursday evening.
 
Entering its sixth year of existence, the Mike Richter Award is an annual award honoring the most outstanding goalie in NCAA Division I Hockey as nominated by all 60 Division I college hockey coaches and selected by a committee of coaches, scouts and members of the media.
 
Swayman finished the regular season with the Hockey East's third-best save percentage at .920, a number that placed him fourth nationally among rookie netminders and 17th overall, and had a 2.74 goals against average. His 13 regular season wins was third-best among freshman goaltenders. Swayman went 15-13-3 in his first season in Orono, earning the most wins by a Maine freshman goaltender since Ben Bishop went 21-8-2 in his rookie season.
 
Christoffer Hernberg (UMass Lowell), Hayden Hawkey (Providence), Jake Oettinger (Boston University), Cayden Primeau (Northeastern), and Joseph Woll (Boston College) were also named to the watch list, giving Hockey East six representatives.
 
The winner of the sixth annual award will be announced at the 2019 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
Maine returns to the ice in an exhibition against the University of Prince Edward Island on Oct. 8 before opening the regular season on Oct. 12 and 13 at the Alfond Arena against St. Lawrence. Hockey East play begins on Oct. 26 in Storrs at the University of Connecticut.
