Men’s Swimming and Diving Opens 2018 at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – After a month and a half off from competition, the Maine men's swimming and diving team resumed its season with a non team-scoring meet against Bowdoin on Saturday at LeRoy Greason Pool. The Maine men earned first place finishes in seven of the 14 events on the day.
Freshman Jack McNamara earned first place finishes in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:00.75) and the 200-yd individual medley (2:00.99) on the day.
Classmate Kazu Temple recorded a personal best time of 55.35 in the 100-yd individual medley to take first place. The Palo Alto, California native earned a second place finish in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:01.69), and also took fourth in the 50-yd freestyle (22.78).
A first place finish in the 100-yd butterfly (52.79), along with hitting the touch pad as a runner-up in the 50-yd freestyle (22.15) highlighted senior Kevin Clyne's day.
Alexander Penn led five Black Bear top finishers in the 100-yd freestyle (49.13). Coulter Morrill registered a time of 49.73 for second place, while Stephen Comeau (50.68), Spencer Lindsley (51.09) and Noel Haren (51.21) all finished shortly after.
In the 200-yd medley relay, Maine's relay teams tallied a first and third place mark. The group of Hayden Kasavicha, McNamara, Clyne, and Jacob Ketch swam faster then the competition with a time of 1:37.38. The Black Bear squad of Nick Gould, Morrill, Andrew Sprague, and Temple finished less than half a second from the second place Bowdoin team, finishing with a time of 1:40.50.
The 400-yd individual medley fielded three Black Bears, with Andrew Plese winning the event with a time of 4:32.92.
In the diving events, Kyle Adams took second in both the 1-meter (264.40) and 3-meter dives (226.90).
The Black Bears close out the regular season with a stop at Providence next Saturday.
