Women’s Swimming Takes Third Place at Maine State Meet

BOWDOIN, Maine – The Maine women's swimming and diving team traveled to Bowdoin this past weekend, taking third place at the annual Maine State Meet. The Black Bears finished with a total of 795 points throughout the two-day meet.

Maine took first in the 400-yd freestyle relay, with the team of Emily Borger, Rita Chen, Juliana McDonald, and Emma Blair with a time of 3:36.96. The same crew finished with a time of 1:38.47 in the 200-yd freestyle relay for second place, which earned Maine 26 points.

Blair earned the Black Bears a fifth place finish in the 50-yd butterfly with a time of 28.55. In the 50-yd butterfly, Emma Blackdeer and Caroline Strolic tied for third place with a time of 32.66 for 15.5 points apiece. In the 200-yd individual medley, Lynsie Russell earned a third-place (2:12.24) finish, which earned the Black Bears 16 points.

Blackdeer earned a second place finish in the 200-yd breaststroke, earning 17 points for the Black Bears with a time of 2:30.44. Emily Pontius followed by taking fourth place in the 200-yd butterfly (2:19.05). Blair took third finish in the 1:01.51 for 16 points, with Russell taking fourth (1:02.31) for 15 points for the Black Bears.

The men's and women's teams are off from competition for the rest of the 2017, and will resume action on right where they left off on Jan. 20th in a dual meet against Bowdoin.
