Men’s Swimming Takes Third at Harold Anderson Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Maine men's swimming team took on the Harold Anderson Invitational this past weekend, placing third at the invite hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Along with URI, the Black Bears also competed against Assumption, Bryant, Holy Cross, and Providence.

The men kicked off the meet with the 400-yd medley relay, with Maine's relay team of Connor Mayhew, Jack McNamara, Calvin Cleworth, and Kevin Clyne taking fourth place with a time of 3:35.81. Next up was the 500-yd freestyle medley, with freshmen Hayden Kasavicha finishing as the top-Maine swimmer with a time of 4:59.46 for 11^th place overall.

Event 6 saw the 200-yd individual medley, with Forest Temple taking eight place overall with a time of 2:00.89. Next came the 50-yd freestyle, as two Black Bears finished in the top-10, with Jacob Ketch taking fifth overall with a time of 22.04, while Clyne placed eight, recording a time of 22.25.

The second relay of the day was the 200-yd freestyle relay, as Maine placed four relay teams in the top-10, the most of any school. The Black Bears' top-relay team of Clyne, Ketch, Andrew Sprague, and Coulter Morrill earned a third place finish, registering a time of 1:28.28. Maine also had teams finish sixth, eighth, and ninth.

The 3-meter dive took place next, with Kyle Adams earning a total of 225.35 points, finishing third overall. The Black Bears followed the diving with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Nick Gould, Jack McNamara, Clyne, and Ketch finished with a time of 1:37.92.

Event 16 was the 400-yd ndividual medley, with Kasavicha earning fifth place for Maine. Clyne was Maine's top-performer in the 100-yd butterfly, taking seventh with a time of 53.28. McNamara placed third (59.24), while Temple took sixth (1:00.20) in the 100-yd breast.

In the final dives of the weekend, Kyle Adams took first in the 1-meter dive, finishing with 258.45 points.

The 1650 freestyle came up next, and with a time of 17:17.64, Kasavicha took fourth place. Connor Mayhew followed with a sixth place finish in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 1:59.56. Sprague placed a Maine-best seventh in the 100-yd freestyle (49.59), while Morrill (2:13.79), Sean Driscoll (2:14.45), and Temple (2:15.56) took sixth, seventh, and ninth places in the 200-yd breaststroke.

McNamara and Cleworth took sixth and seventh place, respectively in the 200-yd butterfly, while the Black Bears relay team of Clyne, Ketch, Spragie and Morrill took sixth place with a time of 3:17.69.

Maine is idle for the rest of the month off until December, when the Black Bears will compete in the Maine State Meet on Dec. 1. The meet will be hosted in Brunswick at Bowdoin College.
