Maine Defeats NYIT in Saturday's Doubleheader

ORONO, Maine -- Maine Baseball defeated NYIT in game one, 8-5 and in game two, 4-1. Colin Ridley highlighted the day with seven combined RBI's, while Logan Fullmer set a new career high for strikeouts in a game with 11.
Maine improves their record to 7-22 on the year, while NYIT drops to 13-17.
In game one for the Black Bears, Justin Courtney received the start on the hill and Dixon Marble started for the Bears.
Colin Ridley reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first to drive in the game's first run and take a 1-0 lead.
Louis Mele singled in the top of the third to tie the game, 1-1.
The Black Bears then exploded in the bottom of the third for six runs on six hits. With the bases loaded, Kevin Stypulkowski was hit by a pitch and scored one to break the tie, 2-1. Colin Ridley followed and hit a grand slam to open the game, 6-1. Later in the inning, Brenden Geary hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring one more and giving Maine a 7-1 advantage.
Maine added another run in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI single through the left side from Danny Casals giving the Black Bears a 8-1 lead.
NYIT answered in the top of the sixth with four runs. Robert Fiato doubled to score one and cut into Maine's lead, 8-2. Jake Lebel later doubled with the bases loaded and drove in three runs to trim Maine's lead, 8-5.
Justin Courtney finished the day pitching six innings, allowing six hits, five runs and striking out five.
Nick Silva came on in relief and shut down NYIT in three scoreless innings of work to earn the save. Silva earned the save, allowing no hits and no runs and striking out five.
Courtney improved to 2-3 on the season and Silva earned his first career save.

Logan Fullmer started for Maine and David Plotkin started for NYIT on the mound.
NYIT jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second, Jake Lebel doubled driving in one run, giving NYIT a 1-0 lead.
The Black Bears responded in the bottom half of the inning, Jake Osborne scored off of a passed ball to tie the game 1-1. Danny Casals later singled up the middle scoring Jonathan Salcedo and Maine took the lead, 2-1.
Maine added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Colin Ridley singled through the right side of the infield driving in two runs and giving Maine a 4-1 lead.
Logan Fullmer closed out the ninth after a come backer he turned into a game ending double play. It is his second start this season that he has struck out 10 batters or more, he finished the day with 11 and earned his first win of the season.
Maine's next opponent is Thomas College on April 13 at Mahaney Diamond, with first pitch a 4:00 p.m. Kids under the age of 17 receive free admission and Adult tickets are $6.
