Maine Baseball Falls To Binghamton in Doubleheader

ORONO, Maine -- Maine (5-17) Baseball dropped both games to Binghamton (6-14) in today's double header, first game 6-1 and second 8-1.
In game one, Jonah Normandeau took the mound for the Black Bears, while Jake Cryts started on the hill for the Bearcats.
Maine and Binghamton were held scoreless through five innings until the Bearcats struck for six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Paul Rufo started kicked off the offensive explosion with a single to left field scoring one for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, David Schwanz layed down a bunt single that scored Rufo to take a 2-0 advantage. Brendan Skidmore then singled to left field driving in two increasing the margin, 4-0. Reed Gamache scored off of a wild pitch to give the Bearcats their fifth run of the inning, 5-0. Patt Britt capped off the inning reaching by a fielder's choice and scoring one after an error to give Binghamton a 6-0 lead.
Cryts finished pitching seven innings allowing only three hits, no runs and seven strikeouts.
Maine was able to tack on one in the bottom of the eighth when Danny Casals homered to left field for a solo shot to cut the lead, 6-1 Binghamton.
The Bearcats shutdown the Black Bears in the final inning and closed out game one, 6-1.

In game two, Maine's Justin Courtney received the nod and Mike Bunal received the start for the Bearcats.
Darian Herncane homered to left field in the top of the third to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Binghamton struck again after Reed Gamache singled through the left side driving in Herncane to increase their lead 2-0. Brendan Skidmore then homered to left field driving in two as the Bearcats took a 4-0 lead.
Justin Courtney pitched in five and two-thirds, allowing ten hits six runs and one strikeout.
After Paul Rufo stole second and reached third on a passed ball, Chris McGee singled to drive in one and giving Binghamton a 5-0 lead. CJ Krowiak singled to right field driving in one in the top of the sixth, giving Binghamton a 6-0 advantage.
In the following innning, Binghamton's Jason Agresti homered to left field, a two run home run to give the Bearcats a 8-0 lead.
Maine scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, as Kevin Stypulkowski launched a home run to right field bringing the score, 8-1 Binghamton.
Mike Bunal received the win, his first of the season pitching seven innings allowing four hits and one run.
Maine returns to action on tomorrow as they square off against Binghamton in game three. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
