Maine Baseball Ends Florida Trip Dropping Doubleheader

LAKELAND, Florida -- Maine Baseball concludes their Florida trip by dropping a doubleheader today against UMass 10-1 and Dartmouth 4-2.
Maine (5-14) faced off against UMass (3-7) in game one of the day. Nick Silva received the start for the Black Bears on the mound and Justin Lasko started for the Minutemen.
UMass hit a sacrifice fly to right field by John Jennings scoring one to put the Minutemen on top 1-0.
In the bottom of the third, UMass' Dylan Morris doubled to right field driving in one run for a 2-0 advantage. Later, Hunter Carey singled up the middle and scored Morris to increase their lead, 3-0.
Jon Avallone of UMass hit a bunt single to the pitcher in the bottom of the fourth, he later reached second and then advanced to third on a throwing error scoring one to increase the margin, 4-0 UMass. Evangelista hit a sacrifice fly to left field driving in Avallone for a 5-0 lead.
Hunter Carey struck again in the bottom of the fifth doubled to left center driving in one and taking a 6-0 lead.
Silva finished the game pitching four and one third innings, allowing eight hits on six runs and four were earned. He also had two walks to go along with six strikeouts.
Avallone in the bottom of the seventh hit a sacrifice fly to left driving in one and taking a 7-0 advantage. Dylan Morris later singled to center field driving in two for a 9-0 lead. Mark Hart singled through the right side driving in one more and went ahead 10-0.
The Black Bears scored their first of the game in the top of the eighth with a double to center field by Patrick Coughlin scoring Colin Ridley, 10-1 UMass.
Justin Lasko pitched eight innings allowing only four hits on one run, not allowing a walk and striking out six.
UMass closed out the ninth and secured the win, 10-1.

In game two for the Black Bears (5-15) against Dartmouth (3-9) for their second game of the day. Eddie Emerson started on the hill for Maine and Michael Danielak started for Dartmouth.
The Black Bears opened with the first run in the bottom of the first after Brett Chappell reached first on a dropped fly ball scoring Tyler Schwanz to give Maine a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth responded in the top of the third with Matt Feinstein singling to left field scoring one to tie the game, 1-1. Rob Emery later singled left scoring Feinstein to give Dartmouth their first lead of the game, 2-1.
Emerson finished the day with pitching four innings, allowing four hits on two runs and walking one and striking one.
Caleb Kerbs in the bottom of the fifth singled to center scoring Patrick Coughlin and tying the game, 2-2.
Dartmouth's Justin Fowler in the top of the seventh singled to left center driving in two and taking a 4-2 lead.
Michael Danielak shut down the Black Bears in the final innings and went the full nine innings, allowing seven hits on two runs, no walks and nine strikeouts.
Danielak finished with the win and Charlie Butler received the loss.
Maine returns to Orono as they open conference play this weekend with the first game at Mahaney Diamond this season against Binghamton, March 26.
