Maine Baseball Falls to Stetson in Third Game of Series, 7-6

DELAND, Florida -- The University of Maine baseball team fell to Stetson 7-6 in the third game of the series Sunday.
Maine drops to 4-11 on the year while Stetson improves their overall record to 10-7.
Nick Silva started on the mound for the Black Bears and Jack Perkins started for the Hatters.
Stetson opened with Vance Vizcaino grounding out to second scoring Jacob Koos and giving the Hatters a 1-0 lead.
Brenden Geary in the top of the second, hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Tyler Schwanz tying the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the third, Jack Machonis doubled to left field driving in two runs and regaining the lead 3-1, Stetson.
In the top of the fourth, Maine's Colin Ridley doubled down the left field line scoring Danny Casals and Schwanz tying the game once again, 3-3. Later in the inning, Brenden Geary singled up the middle scoring Ridley and giving the Black Bears a 4-3 lead. Perkins was replaced by Logan Gilbert on the mound.
Tyler Schwanz doubled down the left field line scoring Jeremy Pena and increasing Maine's lead 5-3.
With two men on, Jacob Koos singled up the middle driving in one, to trim the Black Bear lead 5-4.
Nick Silva was replaced in the bottom of the sixth inning, Silva went five and two-thirds allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out five. Connor Johnson came on in relief for the Black Bears he went one and one-third innings, allowing no hits and striking out two.
In the top of the seventh, Colin Ridley singled to center field scoring Kevin Stypulkowski to increase Maine's lead 6-4. Joey Gonzalez came on in relief for Stetson to record the final two outs by way of strikeout.
Logan Fullmer came in the bottom of eighth inning in relief for Johnson. Stetson's Jacob Koos doubled to right center driving in two runs and tying the game 6-6. Matt Morales singled down the right field line scoring Koos and the Hatters regained the lead 7-6.
Joey Gonzalez received his second win of the year, Logan Fullmer received the loss and Walker Sheller got the save in the ninth for the Hatters.
Maine returns to action March 15 against Bucknell with a 12:30 p.m. start time.
