Maine Baseball Suffers Second Loss of Series to Stetson, 5-1

DELAND, Florida -- The University of Maine Baseball team drops the second game of the series against Stetson Saturday afternoon, 5-1.
Maine falls to 4-10 on the season while Stetson improves their record to 9-7 overall.
John Arel received the start for the Black Bears on the mound and Brooks Wilson started for the Hatters.
In the bottom of the first inning, Stetson opened with the first run of the game. Will Mackenzie singled through the right side scoring Matt Morales to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead.
With two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth, Mike Spooner grounded out to second driving in one run to increase the Stetson lead, 2-0. Later in the inning, Colton Lightner homered to left field, a two-run home run, to give the Hatters a 4-0 advantage.
Maine scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth after a Danny Casals double down the right field line scoring Brenden Geary to cut into Stetson's lead 4-1.
The Hatters added one more in the bottom of the eighth, off of a passed ball scoring Vance Vizcaino to increase their lead 5-1.
John Arel went four innings, striking out four, allowing four hits and four earned runs. Jeff Gelinas appeared in relief, going three and one-third innings and allowing only two hits and one run. Eddie Emerson appeared in two-thirds of an inning not allowing a hit or any runs.
Brooks Wilson received the win, going six and two-thirds and allowing four hits while striking out five.
The Black Bears return to action tomorrow for game three of the series against Stetson, with a 11:00 a.m. start.
