Treacy Saves 47 In Loss To Undefeated #1 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts - Maine kept it close but ultimately falls to Boston College 5-2 in the first of a best-of-3 series against the #1 seed, and #1 ranked in the nation Eagles.
Boston College would strike first in the 1st period as Kristyn Capizzano scored 5:02 into the first period, assisted by Haley Skarupa, to give BC a 1-0 lead that they would hold for most of the first period. While BC was in control on the scoreboard, and led in shots for the period 21-9, Maine kept up the pace with the Eagles and eventually answered back 17:41 into the first period, tying it up with a goal from Nicole Arnold assisted by Anna Wright and Eve Boissionneault. The Eagles would answer right back less than a minute later on a goal from Tori Sullivan, giving BC a 2-1 lead after 1 period.
Maine wasn't done yet and tied the game again to start the 2nd period, 4:39 into the period as Catherine Tufts skated the puck up-ice on a 2-on-1 with Victoria Hummel who ended up putting it past Katie Burt to tie the game at 2 all. The Eagles would once again answer back to re-take the lead 10:38 into the period on a goal from Makenna Newkirk to put BC back on top 3-2; BC once again led in shots 19-5 that period.
The game got away from the Black Bears in the third period as BC scored their 4th goal 1:38 into the period from Dana Trivigno, giving BC a 2 goal lead. The lead would remain 4-2 until the final minute of the game when the Black Bears pulled goaltender Meghann Treacy for an extra attacker, when Makenna Newkirk would seal the game for the Eagles on an empty netter, giving us the final score of 5-2. BC outshot Maine 52-22 in the game.
Meghann Treacy's record falls to 9-19-2 despite saving 47 of 51 shots faced and earning 1st star honors; across the ice Katie Burt improves to 30-0-0 on the season stopping 20 of 22 shots.
Game 2 will be Saturday, February 27th at 7pm at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill.
