Women's Hockey Swept by #1 BC In Hockey East Quarterfinals

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts - Senior Goaltender Meghann Treacy made 61 saves in Maine's season-ending 5-1 loss to #1 Boston College who remain perfect on the season with a record of 36-0-0.
Maine scored first, 4:54 into the 1st period on a penalty kill attempt when Brooklyn Langlois cleared the puck from center ice and it took an awkward bounce under the glove of Katie Burt and into the net; Maine took the lead 1-0. They would hold that lead for over half the period until Haley Skarupa of BC evened the game on a power play goal 16:26 into the period. The period would end 1-1.
BC opened up the scoring in the second, scoring 3 unaswered goals in the period. The first goal came from Dana Trivigno 9:40 into the period at even strength, and another goal coming just 3 minutes later on a power play, scored by Kenzie Kent. Boston College was 2/4 on power play attempts in the game.
The third goal of the 2nd period came 16:15 into the period from Meghan Grieves who put BC up 4-1 after 2 periods of play. BC outshot Maine 44-12 in the first two periods, on their way to outshooting them 66-17 overall.
In the 3rd period BC would once again extend their lead 3:53 into the period on a goal from Makenna Newkirk to put BC up 5-1, which would be the final score. Katie Burt gets the win stopping 16 of 17 shots faced; Meghann Treacy saved 61 of 66, once again gaining first star honors in the loss. BC moves on to the Hockey East semifinals, ending Maine's season.
