Men's Basketball Falls to Stony Brook

BANGOR, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team dropped a 75-56 decision to the league's top-ranked team Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Calixte posted his seventh double-figure scoring effort in eight games, leading Maine with 11 points and four assists. Till Gloger added 11 points off the bench while Ilija Stojiljkovic added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Black Bears finished the game 21-for-62 (33.9 percent), hitting seven field goals from 3-point range.
Stony Brook was led by Jameel Warney's 20 points and nine boards. The Seawolves held a 36-20 advantage on points in the paint and outscored Maine 19-7 off turnovers.
The Black Bears started slow as Stony Brook was able to build an eight point lead over the opening five minutes.
Maine settled in and cut the advantage to three with a 5-0 run after Calixte knocked down one of his three triples and Issac Vann's jumper.
Stony Brook rebuilt its lead back up to seven but Maine once again answered with a 5-0 run, chipping the lead down to a pair before a bucket in transition from Shaun Lawton tied the game.
The Seawolves took their largest lead of the half following a 13-3 run, giving them a 10-point edge with 1:44 left in the half.
Eke's dunk in transition soon after brought the lead down to five but a 4-0 run to close the half gave Stony Brook a nine point lead at the break.
An 8-1 run early in the second half extended Stony Brook's lead out to 14.
Maine again answered, this time with six unanswered points, to bring it back within eight.
Stony Brook outscored Maine 12-2 over the next seven minutes, pushing its lead out to 20 with just under six minutes to play.
The Black Bears were unable to close the gap any closer than 17, falling in the end by a score of 75-56.
Maine hosts Hartford on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
