Vann Nets 26 Points in Loss at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Freshman Issac Vann poured in a game-high 26 points but the University of Maine men's basketball team dropped a 108-64 decision at UAlbany on Sunday afternoon.
Vann finished the contest 10-for-18 with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Aaron Calixte tallied 12 points, posting his fifth-straight double-digit scoring effort while Till Gloger added 10 off the bench.
The Black Bears went 22-for-63 (34.9%) from the floor, hitting seven 3-pointers, and finished 13-for-18 from the free throw line.
UAlbany, which shot 57.7 percent from the floor, was led by Ray Sanders' 22 points.
The Great Danes got off to a quick start as they ran off an 8-0 run early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead.
Vann put a stop to the early surge with one of his three triples of the game.
UAlbany responded with another 8-0 run to take a 14 point edge, 7:35 into the first half.
The lead stretched to 16 before Maine responded with a 7-0 run, cutting the lead to single digits. Gloger started the sprint with a jumper before Vann knocked down five-straight points, slashing the lead to nine.
But the Great Danes were able to piece together another 8-0 run, hitting 6-of-6 free throws on the stretch, to take a 17 point lead. After a Maine make, UAlbany was able to score the final seven points of the half and lead 51-29 at the break.
A 12-0 run by UAlbany began the second, expanding the lead out to 34 with 16:41 to play.
The Great Danes took their largest lead of the game with 8:28 to play when Jamir Andrew's three put the Great Danes up by 43 with 8:28 remaining.
Maine continued to battle, staging a 5-0 run beginning with a triple by Shaun Lawton. However it would not get any closer, dropping the contest 108-64.
Maine returns home on Feb. 20 to host league-leading Stony Brook at 2 p.m. It is Alumni Day for the Black Bears as they will be welcoming back all former men's basketball players for a fun filled day!
