After a close matchup Saturday, the Eagles score 5 on Sunday

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts - Despite a close first period, the BC Eagles, ranked 5th in the nation, rode a 4 goal effort from Freshman Delaney Belinskas to a 5-1 victory over the Black Bears, who are now 0-2-0 in conference play, 1-5-0 overall.

The Black Bears scored their only goal 14:19 into the first period as Tereza Vanisova struck first on a feed from Brooke Stacey on the fast break to put Maine up 1-0. Less than a minute later BC would answer back with Belinskas' first goal, on a fast-break of her own to tie the game at 1 all 14:51 into the first period.

From then on BC took control in the final two periods, with 2 more goals from Belinskas in the second period, both of which came on the power play. Her first came just 52 seconds into the second period, on a 5-on-3, and 2:04 into the period on a standard 5-on-4. BC out-shot Maine 16-8 in the 2nd, and led 3-1 going into the 3rd.

In the third period BC maintained control of the game, not allowing Maine to get many opportunities, giving Maine 2 power plays in the third but not allowing them to score. The 4th goal came 15:12 into the third as an even strength goal from Belinskas put BC up 4-1. Maine only committed one penalty in the third period but it would prove costly as BC capitalized for the 3rd time on the power play with a goal from Bridget McCarthy for her first goal of the season 18:36 into the third.

Carly Jackson faced 34 shots and saved 29 of them on the afternoon as her record falls to 0-5-0. Katie Burt for BC saved 18 of 19 shots faced for her 2nd win of the season, she is now 2-1-1 on the season.

Maine is back in action this weekend as they face Merrimack in Orono on Friday, October 14th at 2pm, and then they face Boston College again in Auburn, ME on Saturday, October 15th at 7pm.
