Women's Hockey Ends Losing Streak at Providence

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - Meghann Treacy saved 24 of 25 shots faced and Audra Richards got her 13th goal of the season in Maine's 3-1 win over Providence College Saturday afternoon. It's the Black Bears' first conference win since they defeated Providence in overtime back on October 30th.
Providence led 1-0 after 1 period with a goal from Cassidy Carels with less than 10 seconds left in the period. Maine answered right back 1:33 into the 2nd period with Audra Richards getting the feed from Mikayla Rogers to tie the game up at 1 all.
15:26 into the 2nd period Maine took the lead 2-1 on a power play goal from Morgan Sakundiak, with assists to Kelsey MacSorely and Catherine Tufts. The Black Bears added another power play goal in the last minute of the period from Freshman Alyson Matteau for her 5th goal of the season and her 3rd power play goal of the season, assisted again by Tufts, to give Maine a 3-1 lead.
The score would remain 3-1 after a scoreless third period as the Black Bears pick up a conference win to tie Providence in the Hockey East standings. Meghann Treacy improves to 7-15-2 on the season while Providence goaltender Madison Myers falls to 7-11-1. Maine ended the game 2-7 on the power play, and shutting out Providence on the penalty kill as they went 0-6.
The two teams play again Sunday, Jan 31st at 2pm.
