Women's Ice Hockey falls to #7 Northeastern

The Black Bears traveled to Boston to face #7 Northeastern in a Hockey East match-up, where they lost their 15th game of the season and 11th in conference play.
Maine and Northeastern skated very close in the first period, with the only goal coming 5:27 into the first period when a save by Meghann Treacy couldn't be covered up in time and was poked away to a waiting Hayley Scamurra, who put NU up 1-0.
In the second Northeastern went on a scoring flurry with 5 goals, the first by Shelby Herrington 2:44 into the period, and another coming 8:17 into the period on the power play by Paige Savage. The Huskies led 3-0 midway through the second period.
Northeastern scored their fourth goal of the game 12:19 into the period by Kasidy Anderson, and the 5th was scored just 1 minute and 2 seconds later by Denisa Krizova putting NU up 5-0. Krizova scored again in the second period with 20 seconds left to extend NU's lead to 6 after 2 periods.
Meghann Treacy finished her afternoon in the 2nd period after saving 26 of 31 shots faced with a save% of .839; she was relieved by Mariah Fujimagary after the 5th NU goal.
The scoring flurry didn't end there for Northeastern or for Krizova who completed the hat trick 5:22 into the third period for her 13th goal of the season and first hat trick of the season. Exactly 30 seconds later Melissa Haganey scored another NU goal to put them up 8-0.
Maine finally got on the board 8:11 into the third period when Audra Richards fired a shot past Brittany Bugalski to give Maine their only goal of the game, and giving the game a final score of 8-1. Bugalski finished the afternoon saving 22 of 23 for a save% of .957; Fujimagary saved 30 of 33 faced with a .909 save%, she and Treacy combined for 56 saves on 64 Northeastern shots on goal. Northeastern outshot the Black Bears 64-23 in the contest.
The two teams will play again tomorrow afternoon at 2pm at Matthews Arena in Boston.
