Women's Hockey Swept at #7 Northeastern

The Black Bears at Matthews Arena Sunday afternoon get their 3rd conference loss in a row as Northeastern wins their 9th consecutive game, further cementing their 2nd place spot behind Boston College in Hockey East.
Northeastern wasted no time getting on the board with a goal 1:13 into the first period as Kendall Coyne scores her 32nd goal of the season, bouncing it off of the back of Meghann Treacy's skates through the 5-hole. 2 minutes later, Treacy was pulled for an early relief by Mariah Fujimagary. She finished with 2 saves on 3 shots faced.
Maine answered back 13:56 into the first period as Victoria Hummel buried a rebound from Jessica Valloton's initial shot; Hummels first goal of the season tied the game at 1-1.
Northeastern didn't answer back until 15:07 into the 2nd period as Hayley Scamurra scored a power play goal to put NU back up 2-1. The 2nd period ended with 2 goals in the final minute, the first coming from Audra Richards with 1 minute remaining for her second goal of the weekend, assisted by Nicole Arnold and Brooklyn Langois. Just 18 seconds later NU answered back to regain the lead with Kendall Coyne's second goal of the game. NU led 3-2 after 2 periods.
The third period was all Northeastern with 2 insurance goals; the first came 4:03 into the third from Shelby Herrington and the second came 11:04 into the period on a power play goal that was initially called a play-on, but was later reviewed to have gone over the line during play. The goal was credited to Paige Savage. Northeastern was 2-4 on the power play, Maine was 0-6.
Fujimagary finished the game with 40 saves on 44 shots, and receives a loss to her record. Across the ice, Sarah Foss finished with 21 saves on 23 shots faced.
The Black Bears are back in action this coming weekend, January 23 and 24 at 2pm against rival UNH.
