
Cross Country Swept by Army West Point

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams each dropped their season opening meets to Army West Point on Saturday, Sept. 5. The men were defeated by a final result of 20-39 while the women dropped a 20-37 edge.
Matthew Bearden from West Point was the overall top finisher on the men's side in the five mile event, placing first in the event with a time of 25:45.2 while Lindsay Gabow of Army West Point won the women's 3.11 mile race at 18:39.2.
Maine senior Annabelle Wilson was Maine's top female finished, placing fourth with a time of 19:54.6 followed by freshman Hope Gardner in fifth at 20:10.2. Faith Gardner added a seventh place showing at 20:22.6 and Shannon O'Neil rounded out the top 10 with a time of 20:33.8.
On the men's side for the Black Bears, junior Jesse Orach placed second with an overall finishing time of 25:47.9. Levi Frye placed sixth for Maine at 26:20.9 and Aaron Willingham was the final top-10 finished for the Black Bears, placing eighth with a time of 26:28.8.
Maine returns to action on Sept. 12 with a 11 a.m. race at UMass.
