Baseball Falls in Game Two at #2 Florida 6-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Luke Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) homered and Scott Heath (Westbrook, Maine) went six innings on the mound, but the University of Maine baseball team fell to #2 Florida 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.
Maine falls to 4-11 on the season while second-ranked Florida improves to 13-2.
Florida struck with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. JJ Schwanz singled to center field and Josh Tobias followed with a single up the middle. Mike Rivera reached on an infield single and moved to second on an error, while Schwanz scored on the play. Ryan Lawson walked to load the bases. Buddy Reed followed with a bases clearing double to give the Gators a 4-0 lead.
Florida added to its lead in the third inning. Harrison Bader singled to left field. Logan Browning pinch ran for Bader and scored the fifth run of the game when Rivera singled through the right side.
Maine got on the board for the first time in the series when Luke Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) belted a home run over the right field fence.
Florida made it a 6-1 final with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Tobias was hit and scored when Christian Hicks grounded out.
Heath went six innings and allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out five. He falls to 2-1 on the season. Logan Fullmer (Lebanon, Pa.) went the final two innings and allowed one unearned run on one hit.
A.J. Puk went 5.2 innings for the Gators. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out six and improves to 3-1 on the season. Danny Young went the final 3.1 innings to earn his first save of the season.
The two teams conclude their weekend series on Sunday, March 8 with a game at 1 pm.
