Men's Swimming Competes at Wheaton Invitational

Norton, Mass. -- The University of Maine men's swimming team competed on day one of the Wheaton Invitational on Friday evening. The Black Bears had individual winners in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM events.
Alexander Penn (Westfield, N.J.) defeated 26 other swimmers as he took first place honors in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.06. Benjamin Hebert (South Berwick, Maine) had a strong showing, placing third in the event at 5:06.69. Hebert was followed by Alex Tucci (Pittsfield, Maine) in fourth place at 5:06.80. Phillip Harrison continued Maine's strong 500 free event as he placed ninth with a time of 5:12.77.
Tim Edison (Westford, Mass.) won the 200-yard IM, the only swimmer to break the two-minute mark, as he finished with a winning time of 1:59.28. Nicholas Sundquist (Windham, Maine) finished third in the event at 2:01.37 follow by Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) in fourth at 2:01.73 and Peter Tirabassi (Lewiston, Maine) in fifth with a time of 2:03.03. Matt England (Bangor, Maine) also had a top-10 showing in the event, placing ninth at 2:06.65.
Kevin Clyne (Salem, Mass.) took second place with a time of 22.32 in the 50-yard freestyle. Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine) placed fifth in the event at 22.84.
Maine closes out the Wheaton Invitational tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m.
