Men's Swimming Has Record Setting Day at ECAC Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Maine men's swim team had a record-setting day two at the ECAC Championships on Saturday. Nicholas Sundquist (Windham, Maine), Matt England (Bangor, Maine) and the 200-yard medley relay team all set school records on the day.
England set the school mark in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a 49.42 in the prelims. He broke his own school record that he set earlier this season. He finished eighth in the finals with a time of 50.87. Connor Mayhew (Waterboro, Maine) was 26th overall in 52.38.
Maine's 200-yard medley relay team of England, Peter Tirabassi (Lewiston, Maine), Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine) and Sundquist placed sixth with a school-record time of 1:32.14. They swam a 1:33.45 in the prelims.
Sundquist set the school record in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:39.86. He broke the school record of 1:41.94 set in 1982 by Chuck Martin. He placed 14th overall, swimming a 1:40.13 in the consolation swim. Tim Edison (Westford, Mass.) completed the preliminaries in 1:46.10.
Eric Gaulin placed 22nd in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.12. Peter Tirabassi (Lewiston, Maine) finished 28th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.58, while Eric Gaulin was 31st in 1:00.72.
Fahey was 16th in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:07.49. He swam a 4:06.24 in the prelims.
The Black Bears have 98 points through 27 events in the championship and currently sit in 10th place. The ECAC Championships continue on Sunday.
