Men's Basketball Falls at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of Maine men's basketball team dropped a 104-67 decision at Marquette on Saturday afternoon. The loss slips the Black Bears to 2-5 on the year while Marquette improves to 6-2.
Devine Eke led the Black Bears for the second-straight contest, finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Kevin Little tallied 15 points and three assists. Lavar Harewood (10) and Ryan Bernstein each also finished in double-digits.
Marquette's Henry Ellenson led all scorers with 23 points as five Golden Eagles recorded double-figure scoring nights.
The Black Bears finished with 20 assists on 25 baskets, shooting 33.3% from the floor and pulling down 37 rebounds.
Marquette distanced themselves early, opening the game on a 22-0 run in the game's first 4:50.
The Black Bears staged a brief run late in the first half, starting with Shaun Lawton's first bucket of the year. The Marquette lead, which had swelled to 32, was cut down to 28 following the 8-4 run by the Black Bears.
The Golden Eagles continued to roll through the first half, carrying a 61-29 lead into the half.
Maine was much better out of the break, hanging with Marquette for the second half as the Golden Eagles finished the final 20-minutes with a 43-38 advantage.
A pair of 3-pointers from Harewood keyed an early 10-4 run in the second half for the Black Bears.
Maine kept battling, piecing together another run on back-to-back 3-pointers by Little before the sophomore guard found Eke for a dunk.
However, the Black Bears were unable to make a dent in the Marquette advantage, dropping a 104-67 to the Big East member.
Maine returns home on Dec. 9 when it hosts Dartmouth at the Cross Insurance Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
