Eke Tallies Double-Double in Men's Basketball Loss to Army

ORONO, Maine -- Freshman Devine Eke tallied career-highs with 29 points and 16 rebounds but Maine's late rally came up short as the men's basketball team dropped an 84-71 victory to Army on Wednesday evening.
Kevin Little added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists while Ryan Bernstein chipped in a career-high 11 points for the Black Bears.
Maine, which outscored Army 42-34 in the second half, went 31-for-76 (40.8%) from the floor and pulled down 50 boards to Army's 42. The Black Bears' bench chipped in 43 points; 40 coming from Bernstein and Eke.
Fast-paced, end-to-end action was featured throughout the contest as both team's maintained a high tempo. The Black Bears, leading by three early, were unable to hold on as Army reeled off a 28-15 run to lead by double-digits, midway through the first half.
The Black Knights continued to add to their lead, closing the half on a 20-9 sprint to carry a 50-29 lead into the break.
Maine's offense began to click in the second half, starting with back-to-back layups by Eke and Bernstein in the opening 55-seconds.
Army's lead swelled back to 22 before Maine responded with an 8-2 run to cut the advantage to 16 with 15:57 remaining.
Maine's was followed by seven-straight by the Black Knights. Army grabbed its largest lead of the game with 9:49 to play as it led by 25 on Kyle Wilson's layup.
There was no quit in the Black Bears. A 16-4 Maine run, capped on an alley-oop from Little to Eke, brought Maine all the way back to within 11 with 2:50 on the clock.
However, the Black Bears could not get any closer, falling by a score of 84-71.
Maine returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 5 when it travels to take on Big East foe Marquette. Tip is set for 2:30 p.m. EST.
