
Women's Basketball Cruises by Colby, 82-42

BANGOR, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team held Colby scoreless over the opening seven minutes, running out to an 18-0 lead before defeating the visiting Mules by a score of 82-42 on Tuesday evening.
Sigi Koizar led all scorers with 16 points on four 3-pointers while Chantel Charles chipped in 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Liz Wood added eight points and 13 rebounds while Sheraton Jones tallied nine points in 11 minutes. All 14 of Maine's players who logged minutes scored.
The Black Bears, who have now won three-straight, shot 54.5% in the first half, finishing the game 33-for-72 (45.8%). Maine controlled the boards, outrebounding Colby 56-23 while dominating inside with 46 points in the paint.
Maine's defense forced Colby into a lot of bad shot selections, leading the Mules to finish the game 15-for-51 (29.4%) with 20 turnovers.
The Black Bears reeled off the game's first 18 points as back-to-back 3-pointers from Koizar and Charles gave Maine an 18-0 lead with 3:03 left in the first quarter.
Colby cut the lead down to 15 before Maine answered with an 11-0 run early in the second quarter, stretching the lead to 24 after Jones found Sophie Weckstrom on the wing for a trey.
Maine kept rolling, ending the half on a 9-0 sprint to carry a 47-17 lead into the break.
The Black Bears outscored Colby 20-10 in the third quarter, taking their largest lead of the game with 1:09 left in the period after Wood's lay-up put Maine on top by 42, 67-25.
Colby kept charging, chipping the lead back down to 32 midway through the final quarter. But the Black Bears closed strong, cruising to an 82-42 victory.
Maine is back in action on Friday, Dec. 4 when it travels to battle CAA foe Northeastern at noon.
