
Men's Basketball Takes on Longwood for Home Opener

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's basketball team looks to grab its first win of the season in its home opener of the 2015-2016 season in its first ever meeting against Longwood.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine enters play 0-3 after dropping its opening contests at UConn (100-56), LIU-Brooklyn (84-79) and Wagner (87-73). Issac Vann had a team high 28 points and 11 rebounds.
Maine is led by freshman forward Issac Vann who is averaging 16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals. Vann is hitting at 48.1% from the field and 71.4% from 3-point range. Kevin Little is adding 10.3 points 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. The other Black Bear freshman Devine Eke is pouring in 9.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and a team leading 1.7 blocks per game.
Maine will look to build upon its 3-27 overall record from a year ago as it returns four starters, nine letterwinners and add eight new additions. The Black Bears finished last season just 1-17 on the road with its long road victory coming at Hartford (70-61). Maine enters the opener at 23-21 since 1970-71 in season openers.
The Black Bears welcome back four of their top five scorers from last year, including America East All-Rookie team selection Kevin Little. Little posted 12.5 points per game to lead all Maine scorers while adding 2.5 rebounds. Little is joined by senior big man Till Gloger (11.5 ppg) who paced Maine's defensive attacked with 4.8 per game. Gloger cashed in from the floor at a high-rate, ranking fourth in the league with a 52.6% mark from the field. Sophomore guard Aaron Calixte also returns a year after averaging 7.3 ppg and ranking fourth in the league with 3.4 assists. Calxite finished the season as the number two ranked free throw shooter in the America East (82.5%) and third with a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio.
SCOUTING LONGWOOD:
Longwood enters today's contest on a three game losing streak. They started the season in the Eastern Kentucky Hoops Classic winning two games against Randolph College (69-49) and La Roche College (89-65).
In five games, Kanayo Obi-Rapu leads the Lancers with 17.8 points per game, he also leads the team in field goal percentage (55.2%). Khris Lane leads Longwood with 8.8 rebounds per game. Bryan Gee and Darrion Allen lead the Lancers with 3.8 assists per game.
In their last game, Longwood lost to Eastern Kentucky 110-97 on 11/22. Lotanna Nwogbo had a team high 26 points on 10-13 shooting from the field. Tra'vaughn White also had 20-plus points adding 21 shooting 8-13.
