Saulter's OT Goal Lifts Women's Soccer over New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. -- University of Maine's women's soccer midfielder Kaitlin Saulter scored 2:59 into overtime to lift the Black Bears over New Hampshire, 2-1, on Thursday evening. The win moved Maine to 8-5-1 on the year and 3-1-1 in America East action. New Hampshire, the preseason league favorite, dropped to 6-7-3 and 4-2-0 in league play.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at the 26:43 mark when Brooke Murphy took a pass from Caroline Murray in the box and sent a shot into the Maine net.
Maine answered just 1:21 later when Jenna Soucy scored her first goal of the season, knotting the score at 1-1. Charlene Achille began the play for Maine, sending a pass to Soucy who launched a shot from 30-yards out. The ball clanged off the left post and bounced into the net.
Neither team would score in the second half, sending the game to overtime.
Just 2:59 into the extra frame, Saulter took control of a losse ball in the middle of the field and ripped a shot from 18-yards out. The ball soared high into the left corner of the net, giving the Black Bears a 2-1 victory.
Maine goalkeeper Claudia Dube-Trempe improves her record to 8-4-1, lowering her goals against average to 0.98 after making three saves.
The Black Bears return home and continue America East action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Binghamton.
