Maine Men's Hockey Kicks Off Rivalry Week With Victory Over New Hampshire, 6-4

Maine improves its record to 9-15-1 overall and 4-7-0 in Hockey East play. New Hampshire, which entered the game coming off of a win against UMass, drops to 8-13-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Hockey East play.
Maine started the game with a goal 47 seconds into the first period by Swavely, his fifth of the year. The goal was assisted by Liam Pecararo (Canton, Massachusetts) and Shore.
Maine's lead didn't last for long as UNH responded 54 seconds later, with a shot that found the back of the net by Kyle Smith. John Furgele and Richard Boyd earned assists on the play.
UNH broke the tie mid-way through the first period on a power play goal scored by Cameron Marks for his first goal of the season.
Five minutes later the Wildcats scored their third unanswered goal off of a rebound by captain, Matt Willows, for his 10th goal of the season. The marker was assisted by Harry Quast and Andrew Poturalski.
Maine broke UNH's string of goals with one of its own 17:29 into the first period on a power play marker by Nolan Vesey (Reading, Massachusetts). Vesey's goal sent the Black Bears to the first intermission down 3-2.
The Black Bears also had a streak of three unanswered goals which began 14:25 into the second period. Shore capitalized on a power play opportunity for the Black Bears as he scored his seventh goal of the season.
Maine continued its streak of goals 12 seconds into the third period as Shore scored his second of the game placing it just beyond Danny Tirone's reach.
The Wildcats answered late into the third with a goal by Casey Thrush for his fourth of the season to pull UNH within one goal.
UNH tried to complete the comeback by pulling Tirone for the extra attacker, but Swavely scored on an empty net goal with 1:18 remaining in the game to seal the win for Maine. The win is the second victory over UNH this season.
Maine outshot UNH 37-33 in the game. Meanwhile Sean Romeo stopped 29 of 33 shots to improve his record to 6-10-0 on the season.
The two teams conclude its two-game weekend series on Saturday, Jan. 24 with a game at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
