Morris Stellar As Men's Ice Hockey Shuts Out New Hampshire 4-0

DURHAM, New Hampshire – Matt Morris (Ridgewood, New Jersey) tied his career-high 40 saves and recorded his second shutout to lead the University of Maine men's ice hockey team past New Hampshire 4-0 on a snowy Saturday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire. Maine tallied two goals just 21 seconds apart in the third period to earn the win.
Maine improves to 10-15-1 on the season and 5-7-0 in Hockey East play. UNH falls to 8-14-2 overall, 3-8-1 in conference play.
Maine struck first at 10:17 of the opening period with a power play goal by Liam Pecararo (Canton, Massachusetts). Pecararo got a pass from Cam Brown (Natick, Massachusetts) skated a few strides and fired the puck past UNH goalie Adam Clark. Connor Leen (Chester, New York) also assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.
The two teams skated through a scoreless second period as each team had a goal waived off in the frame. Maine's was waived off due to a player in the crease, while UNH had it goal waived off for goalie interference.
Maine then scored two goals in 21 seconds early in the third period to extend the lead to 3-0. Cam Brown got his sixth goal of the season at 4:23 from Blaine Byron (Manotick, Ontario) and Conor Riley (Massena, New York). Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) then fed Nolan Vesey (No. Reading, Massachusetts) seconds later and he broke in alone on UNH netminder Adam Clark. Vesey made a move, beating Clark for his sixth goal of the season to give Maine a 3-0 lead.
Steven Swavely (Reading, Pennsylvania) made it 4-0 Maine at 10:03 of the third period. Vesey carried the puck in and UNH goalie Clark came out to play the puck but was unable to. Swavely then shot the puck into the open net for his seventh goal of the season. Dan Renouf (Pickering, Ontario) also assisted on the goal.
New Hampshire outshot Maine 40-21 in the game. The Black Bears were 1-for-3 on the power play, while UNH finished the game 0-for-4.
Morris was outstanding in goal for the Black Bears. He made 40 saves and improves to 4-5-1 on the season. Adam Clark made 16 saves in 50:03 for the Wildcats. He falls to 5-13-2 on the season. Jamie Regan replaced Clark and he made 1 saves in 9:57.
Maine returns home when it hosts Connecticut on Friday, Jan. 30. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
