Women's Ice Hockey Loses Tough Battle to #4 Boston University, 5-3

BOSTON, Massachusetts --- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team lost to #4 Boston University 5-3 at Walter Brown Arena Saturday afternoon. Maine falls to 7-11-3 on the season, while Boston University improves to 13-4-2.
Victoria Bach gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead at (10:24) in the first period. Rebecca Leslie found Bach who was left alone in front of the Maine net. Victoria Bach beat Meghann Treacy (Lake Peakskill, New York) stick-side, high. Shannon Doyle was also credited with an assist.
Boston University extended their lead at (2:33) in the second with a goal from Dakota Woodworth. Shannon Doyle fired a shot, which was deflected past Treacy by Woodworth. Victoria Bach had the secondary assist.
The Terriers added a third goal at (4:43). Rebecca Leslie scored a two-on-one goal on an assist from Victoria Bach. The shot hit Meghann Treacy's stick but still found its way into the net.
Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario) got the Black Bears onto the board at (10:52) in the second period. Kristin Gilmour's (Millgrove, Ontario) shot rebounded to Langtry, who buried the pack past Erin O'Neil. Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) also assisted on the play.
Marie-Philip Poulin continued the scoring in the second period with a goal at (13:03). Sarah Lefort and Sarah Bayersdorfer each had an assist.
Maine struck first in the third period. Emilie Brigham (Anoka, Minnesota) battled through scrum in front of the Boston University net and tipped home the Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota) rebound making the score 4-2. Jennifer More (Deloriane, Maintoba) had the other assist on the scoring play.
Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) added another goal for the Black Bears 26 seconds later to climb within a goal. Richards picked up the lose puck in the neutral zone and beat the Terriers net minder for an unassisted goal.
Rebecca Russo crushed the Maine rally with a power-play goal at (13:58). Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga and Maddie Elia assisted on BU's fifth goal of the day.
Meghann Treacy saved 31 of 36 shots on goal, and Erin O'Neil saved 26 of 29 shot on goal. The Black Bears were 0-4 on the power play, while the Terriers scored one goal in three opportunities.
The Black Bears return to action January 18th at Providence College. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
