Women's Ice Hockey Defeats Hockey East Rival Providence College, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island --- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated Providence College 2-0 at Schneider Arena Sunday afternoon. Maine improves to 8-11-3 on the season, while Providence College falls to 5-15-4.
Meghann Treacy (Lake Peakskill, New York) and Allie Morse combined for sixteen saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless. Providence was 0-1 on their lone power play in the first stanza, while the Black Bears failed to draw a power play.
The stalemate continued through the second period until the Black Bears took advantage of a pinching Friars defenseman at (8:34). Emilie Brigham (Anoka, Minnesota) skated the puck through the neutral zone and found Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario), who was left alone in the slot. Browne ripped a shot top corner that beat Morse. Mikayla Rogers (St. Paul, Minnesota) was credited with the secondary assist on the play.
Kelsey MacSorley (Stratford, Ontario) added an unassisted, empty net goal at (19:26) in the third period to give the Black Bears a 2-0 lead.
Meghann Treacy saved 30 of 30 shots on goal, and Allie Morse saved 27 of 28 shots on goal. The Black Bears were 0-1 on the power play, while the Friars scored zero goals in three opportunities.
The Black Bears return to action January 24th at the Alfond Arena against Northeastern University. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
