Maine Falls to Vermont 2-1

BURLINGTON, Vermont- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to Vermont 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Emilie Brigham (Anoka, MN) scored Maine's lone goal.
After defeating UNH back-to-back nights last weekend at Alfond Arena, Maine was looking to continue their hot streak in Vermont but came up short.
The Black Bears took the lead late in the first when Brigham fired the puck in the net on a pass from Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) at 18:49 into the first period.
A power play opportunity put Vermont on the board at 9:14 into the second period. Brttany Zuback found Dayna Colang to put the puck in the net making it a 1-1 game.
Just before closing out the period Vermont struck again. Rachael Ade and Victoria Andreakos teamed up for a goal at 18:06 into the second.
Vermont out shot Maine 14 to 4 in the second.
The Black Bears came out looking for a goal in the third with 11 shots on net, but came up short. Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) stopped Vermont's ten shots in the third period leaving the final score 2-1.
Treacy made 35 saves while Vermont goalie Roxanne Douville stopped 18.
Maine falls to a 5-17-5 record on the season. Vermont improves to a 13-13-4 record.
Maine returns home for Senior Weekend Feb 15th and 16th to take on Boston College in Maine's final home games of the season. The puck drops at 1pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.
