Maine Drops to #7 Boston College 4-1

ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped to #7 Boston College 4-1 on Senior Day at Alfond Arena. Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minn.) scored Maine's lone goal.
The Black Bears faced off against the Eagles for the second time this weekend and for Maine's Senior game. Seniors Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) Missy Denk( Poplar Grove, Ill), Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) and Kayla Kalunzy (Calgary Alberta) played their final game at Alfond Arena.
A simliar start to Saturday's game, both team were fighting to get on the board first. Boston College had 14 shots on net in the first period while Maine had seven. Both teams remind scoreless after one.
The second period matched the first where neither team got on the board. The Black Bears were 0-1 on the power play. Maine held the Eagles to just seven shots on goal in the second period. Maine fired six shots on net but remind scoreless. The score 0-0 after two periods.
The Eagles lit up in the third period scoring 4 goals. The first came at 4:13 into the period when Andie Anastos fired a shot that was rebounded by teammate Haley Skarupa. Skarupa knocked the rebound in for a goal to put the Eagles on the board.
Minutes later Taylor Wasylk found Kate Leary up the ice. Leary found Danille Doherty in the corner for a shot and a goal at 7:33 into the third period.
The Eagles streak continued. Less than a minute later BC struck again when Kristyn Capizzari found Skarupa in front of the net who drove the puck by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) at 8:29 into the third.
The Black Bears continued to battle for a goal. Maine got on the board late in third when Kelsey MacSoreley (Stratford, Ontario) took a slap shot from the top left corner, Huneke was there to tip the puck in for a goal.
The Eagles notched another goal late in the third when Skarupa scored her 21st goal of the season to make the final score 4-1.
BC out shot Maine 28 to 23. Maine was 0-2 on the power play and the Eagles were 0-1.
Treacy made 24 saves for the Black Bears while Corrine Boyles stopped 22 for the Eagles.
Maine falls to a 5-19-5 on the season and BC improves to a 22-5-3 record.
The Black Bears wrap up the regular season on the road against UCONN on Feb. 21st and 22nd. The puck drops at 2pm both days.
