Burlington, Vermont --- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team opened its two game road trip with a 3-0 win against the University of Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse Saturday Afternoon. Maine improves to 6-8-2 on the season, while Vermont falls to 8-7-1.
Maine started the scoring early with a slap shot goal from the blue line from Kristin Gilmour (Millgrove, Ontario) at (00:14) in the first period. Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) was credited with the only assist.
The Black Bears continued their strong early play with a goal from Abbey Cook (Fairpoint, New York) at (3:36). Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba) and Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) both assisted on the early goal.
Audra Richards gave Maine the 3-0 lead at (9:40) in the third period. Richards tipped home a rebound from a Brooke Stacey (Kahnawake, Quebec) shot. Emilie Brigham (Anoka, Minnesota) also had an assist.
Meghann Treacy (Lake Peakskill, New York) saved 38 of 38 shots on goal, while Madison Litchfield saved 24 of 27 shots on goal. It was Treacy's first shut out on the season. The Black Bears were 1 for 7 on the power play, and Vermont had zero goals in seven opportunities.
The Black Bears return to action November 30th at Vermont. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
