Men's Ice Hockey Falls to #2 Boston University in Overtime

BOSTON, Mass. – Boston University scored a power play goal 2:40 into overtime to defeat the University of Maine 3-2 in men's ice hockey action on Friday night at Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass.
Maine opened the scoring at 7:33 of the first period. Liam Pecararo (Canton, Mass.) got the puck to Cam Brown (Natick, Mass.), who had a shot that BU goalie Matt O'Connor saved. The rebound went to Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ontario) who fired the puck into the back of the net from the left face-off circle. For Hutton, it was his second goal of the season.
Maine added to its lead with a short-handed goal just 56 seconds into the second period when Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.) notched a goal in his fourth straight game. He got the puck in the neutral zone and falling to the ice, slid the puck inside the left goal post and past BU netminder O'Connor.
Boston University cut into the Maine lead at 4:50 of the third period with a goal on a rush. Jack Eichel made the pass to Ahti Oksanen who beat Maine goalie Sean Romeo (Cary, North Carolina) for his fifth goal of the season. Danny O'Regan also assisted on the goal for the Terriers.
BU tied the game at 9:03 of the third period when Matt Lane got the puck on the goalpost. He faked a shot before sliding the puck into the back of the goal.
BU won the game in overtime when Eichel got the puck behind the BU net, carried it the length of the ice and unleashed a shot from the left face-off circle that beat Romeo.
Boston University outshot Maine 36-28 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Terriers converted one of their four opportunities.
Maine falls to 3-8-1 on the season and 2-4-0 in Hockey East play. Boston University, currently ranked second in the nation, improves to 7-1-1 overall, 5-1-1 in conference play.
Romeo made a career-high 33 saves in goal for the Black Bears. He falls to 1-5-0. O'Connor made 26 save in net for the Terriers and improves to 6-1-0.
Maine returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 when it travels to Boston College for a game with the Eagles. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM.
