
Men's Ice Hockey Falls at #12 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Maine men's ice hockey team fell to #12 Boston College 4-1 on Saturday night at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hills, Mass. Blaine Byron (Manotick, Ontario) scored the lone goal for the Black Bears.
Boston College took a 1-0 lead at 9:35 of the first period on a goal on an odd-man rush. Destry Straight passed to Teddy Doherty who beat Maine goalie Sean Romeo (Cary, North Carolina) glove side. Chris Calnan also assisted on the play for the Eagles.
Maine answered with a short-handed goal at 11:57. Cam Brown (Natick, Mass.) picked the puck off in the offensive zone as BC was starting its rush. He passed back and forth with Blaine Byron, who eventually got the final pass and fired the puck past BC goalie Thatcher Demko. It was Maine's second straight game with a short-handed goal.
BC regained the lead at 1:38 of the second period when Doherty had a shot that missed the net, but Adam Gilmour gained control and tipped the puck to Straight on the far goal post. He shot the puck past Romeo and into the back of the net.
The Eagles made it a 3-1 lead at 5:11 of the second period when Straight carried the puck up the ice and wristed a shot from the right face-off circle past Romeo.
The Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 2:51 into the third period when Alex Tuck scored on a wrist shot from the right face-off circle that beat Romeo stick side.
Maine falls to 3-9-1 on the season with the loss and 2-5-0 on Hockey East play. Boston College improves to 7-5-0 overall, 3-3-0 in Hockey Eat play.
Boston College finished the game with a 27-23 edge in shots on goal. The Black Bears were scoreless in one power play opportunity, while BC finished 0-for-2 with the advantage.
Romeo made 23 saves for the Black Bears and falls to 1-6-0 on the season. Demko stopped 22 shots for the Eagles and improves to 7-4-0.
Maine returns to action on Friday, Nov. 28 when it begins a two-game series with Vermont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM.
