Maine falls to Boston Univeristy

BOSTON, Mass.- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to Boston University 5-1 Saturday afternoon. Senior Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) scored Maine's lone goal.
The Black Bears and the BU Terriers battled evenly in the first period until Maine put the puck in the net late in the first period. Brianne Kilgour scored her second goal of the season on a pass from Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario) at 17:36 giving Maine a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.
The Terriers tied the game early in the second period when Maddie Elia scored on pass from Taylor Holze at 3:18.
Minutes later BU struck again when Sarah Lefort put one by Black Bear goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) on a pass from Sarah Steele at 5:22 in the second.
The Terriers added another goal in the third period when Maddie Elia scored her second goal of the game on a power play at 16:01, ending the second period with BU leading 3-1.
BU continued the scoring spree in the third as Jordan Juron put the puck in the net on an assist from Rebecca Russo at 1:36 in the third period.
The Terriers struck again late in the third when leading scorer Louise Warren scored her ninth goal of the season for the Terriers at 16:43 extending the lead to 5-1 BU.
Maine moves to a 0-6-3 on the season while BU improves to 8-1-1 overall.
The Black Bears were out shot 35-22.
Treacy made 30 saves for Maine, while BU goalie Kerrin Sperry stopped 21 shots.
Maine continues the series with Boston University Sunday at 3pm
