Maine Men Win URI Invite.

KINGSTON- R.I.- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams completed the URI Invite on Saturday. The men placed first in the invite with a score of 874. The women finished fourth. Senior diver Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) continued her undefeated season winning both the one and three meter. Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine) earned a first place finish. Matt England (Bangor, Maine) earned two first place finishes. Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass) and Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) also added strong finishes for the men.
The men paced the 400-yard IM placing two, three, and four. John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) touched for second place (4:15.53) followed by Fahey in third (4:19.83) and Williams in fourth (4:20.76).
Gaulin won the 100-yard butterfly at (53.06) and Sergey Terrio touched for third place (53.25). David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) continued the second day strong, as he finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.44). Vittori also picked up a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:56.34) followed by teammate Cody Lachance (Winslow, Maine) in second (10:09.21).
England won the 100-yard backstroke (53.71) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.48) while Keith Chandler nabbed second place (54.10) in the 100 and third place in the 200 (1:59.88).
Connor Devers won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.73) followed by Fahey (2:11.37). In the 200-yard butterfly Carlucci nabbed a second place finish (1:58.65) followed by Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) in third (1:59.83).
Freshman diver Ethan Eckoff finished third in the one-meter with a score of 232.25.
For the women, Capossela continued her undefeated season after winning the three-meter diving on the second day with a score of (254.75). Hayli Weitz placed third (198.60).
Shannon Bender (Cumberland, R.I.) had a strong swim in the 400-yard IM with a time of (4:47.42). Naja Harvey placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.11) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke at (1:05.72).
Maine swimming and diving return home on Dec. 7th to host Bates.
