Albany Defeats Men's Basketball 76-68

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's basketball team fell to Albany by the score of 76-68 on Saturday afternoon in Alfond Arena. Maine is now 11-13 overall and 5-8 in America East play while Albany goes to 16-12 and 8-6 in league play. Alasdair Fraser (Falkirk, Scotland) led Maine with 21 points and four rebounds.
Fraser scored the first 12 points for Maine, and Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) buried a jumper to make it 14-9 with under 12 minutes to play.
Albany scored the next 12 points, but Raheem Singleton (Boston, Mass.) found Fraser for a jumper from the side to stop the run.
Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) followed a Great Dane bucket with a nifty step through move for a layup.
Albany would take a 36-24 lead with under a minute to play, but an Edwards free throw cut it to 11 going into intermission.
Fraser had 14 points and four boards to lead Maine in the first stanza while McLemore had eight points.
Maine shot 37.9 percent in the first half to Albany's 42.1 percent.
Maine quickly cut the lead to 39-32 under two minutes into the half on a Fraser jumper, and an Allison layup kept the lead at seven with just under 16 minutes left.
The Black Bears continued to battle, but every time Maine threatened Albany had an answer and could not get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
McLemore finished with 19 points while Edwards added 11 with five rebounds and four assists. Singleton notched seven assists to go with 10 points and five rebounds.
McLemore's three-pointer with 4:28 left in the contest set the school record for career three-pointers, surpassing Kevin Reed's 311. McLemore now has 313 from long distance.
Maine shot 52.9 percent from the field while Albany shot 45.3 percent. The Great Danes won the rebounding battle 35-27.
Fraser was Maine's America East Player of the Game while Gerardo Suero was Albany's as he had a game-high 28 points.
