Flynn, House Notch 100th Career Points, Sullivan Records Second Straight Shutout

LOWELL, Mass. --Brian Flynn (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Tanner House (Cochrane, Alberta) each notched their 100th career points, while rookie Dan Sullivan (York, Pa.) recorded his second straight shutout as the University of Maine swept the weekend series from UMass Lowell with a 3-0 win on Saturday night. Maine improves to 14-10-6 on the season and 11-8-4 in Hockey East play. Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) added a pair of goals for the Black Bears in the game as well.
Maine took a 1-0 lead at 8:38 of the first period when Brian Flynn found Gustav Nyquist off a face-off. Nyquist skated in and fired a shot past UMass Lowell goalie Doug Carr. The assist was the 100th career point for Flynn, making him the 49th player in Maine history to reach the milestone. Tanner House (Cochrane, Alberta) also assisted on the goal.
Maine extended its lead to 2-0 at 15:01 of the first. Tanner House got a step on the defense and was able to find Joey Diamond (Long Beach, N.Y.) in the slot. Diamond beat Carr for his 11th goal of the season. For House, it the assist was the 100th career point of his career, making him the 50th player in school history to reach the plateau.
Nyquist gave Maine a 3-0 lead with a shorthanded goal at 9:31 of the second period. He got the puck in the neutral zone, flat out beat his defender, and skated in alone on Carr. He slid the puck inside the goal post for his 15th goal of the season. House also assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.
Maine outshot UMass Lowell 38-28 in the game. The Black Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play in the game, while UMass Lowell was scoreless in six chances.
Sullivan made 28 saves in goal and improves to 7-5-1 on the season. Carr made 35 saves in goal for the River Hawks. He falls to 3-12-1.
UMass Lowell falls to 4-24-2 overall, 3-20-0 in conference play.
