Women's Ice Hockey Skates to 1-1 Draw with #7 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with #7 Boston College on Friday night at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Black Bears move to 10-15-5 on the season with the win and 4-11-3 in Hockey East play. The Eagles move to 19-5-5 on the season and 12-3-3 in conference play.
After a scoreless first period, Maine got on the board just 2:24 into the second period. Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.) intercepted a BC pass and found Jennie Gallo (Castlegar, British Columbia). Gallo had her high shot beat Eagle goalie Molly Schaus. For Gallo, it was her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
The Eagles tied the game at 9:01 of the third period with a short-handed unassisted tally. Kelli Stack beat Maine goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) for her 31st goal of the season. Her initial shot was saved by Ott, but she was able to bang home the rebound.
Neither team would score the remainder of regulation or during the five minute overtime frame.
Boston College finished the game with a 38-14 advantage in shots on goal. Maine was 1-for-2 on the power play, while Boston College finished the game scoreless on eight chances.
Maine goalie Ott was outstanding, making 37 saves in goal. She moves to 8-13-4 on the season. Schaus made 13 saves in goal for the Eagles. She moves to 19-3-3.
The Black Bears and Eagles finish their weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 PM.
