Men's basketball Has Seven-Game Win Streak Snapped

BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Maine men's basketball team had its seven-game win streak snapped by Boston University by the score of 88-78 on Tuesday night at Agganis Arena. Maine is now 14-8 overall and 8-2 in America East play while Boston University improved to 11-13 and 6-4 in league play. Maine was led by America East Player of the Game Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) who had 26 points and 10 rebounds.
The Terriers took a quick 7-2 lead before Raheem Singleton (Boston, Mass.) found a streaking Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) for an easy layup. Boston University continued to shoot well and would take a 14-4 lead.
Terrance Mitchell (Milton, Fla.) made two-straight three-pointers to make it 16-10 just over five minutes into the game
The Black Bears would make it 18-14 on two Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) free throws with 12:37 left, but the Terriers would answer before Mitchell and Barnies worked a nice give-and-go and Barnies maneuvered through two B.U. defenders in the air to make the layup.
Maine would get within 22-21 with 9:31 left when Barnies found an open McLemore in the corner for a three-pointer, and would put the Black Bears up 24-22 when Malachi Peay (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found him open off an in-bounds play. The teams would trade baskets and it was 30-30 with three minutes left.
The Terriers would respond and go on a run to end the half to take a 40-32 lead into halftime.
Maine was led by Barnies who had 10 points and four rebounds and McLemore who added 10 points as well.
A Barnies layup and Murphy Burnatowski three-pointer would close the lead to three to open the second half, but the Terriers responded to hold a 47-40 lead with 16 minutes left, and push it to 54-43 with 14:32 left.
B.U. continued the hot shooting to take a 63-47 lead with 12:02 left.
The Black Bears would continue to battle, but the Terriers continued to make shots to pull away.
McLemore finished with 17 points while Singleton added 13.
