Storylines
The University of Maine men's basketball team (0-0) opens up the regular season against the Maine-Machias Clippers.
Maine is looking to build off a second-straight third place finish in America East; only the second time in 20 years Maine has had back-to-back top-3 league finishes.
The Black Bears are led this season by senior captains Gerald McLemore, Andrew Rogers and Raheem Singleton.
McLemore is a Preseason All-America East selection and the leading returning scorer in America East with 1,199 career points.
Singleton and Rogers were among the top-10 in America East last season in assists.
The Black Bears were selected sixth in the America East Preseason Poll.
Maine returns eight players from last season's squad, and five who played significant action in 20 games or more.
The Black Bears will play Maine-Machias in the Memorial Gym, one of six during the 2011-12 season, and a place where the Black Bears are especially tough to play.
Maine has won its last two season-openers, including last season when the Black Bears came back to defeat Utah Valley in overtime and in the opener to the 2009-10 season when they beat Atlantic-10 foe Fordham.
Last season, Gerald McLemore scored 13 points and Alasdair Fraser had 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks as the Black Bears defeated the Clippers 95-44.
