Women's Ice Hockey Falls to UConn 3-0

STORRS, Conn--The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to the University of Connecticut 3-0 in the second game of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Maine back to 5-3-0 and 1-1-0 in conference play while the win improves UConn's record to 1-5-2 and 1-1-0 in conference action. Missy Denk (Popular Grove, Ill.) had seven shots for the Black Bears.
The Huskies took the lead 16:47 seconds into the first period on a power play goal by Sami Evelyn, who was assisted by Kiana Nauheim and Sarah MacDonnell on the play giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The Huskies would strike again at 18:04 on an even-strength goal by Rachel Farrel, assisted by Kelly Horan.
UConn would notch their third goal of the game at 9:01 in the second period by Christine Brauer, with the assists being credited to Rebecca Hewett and Maggie Walsh on a power play. The score would stay 3-0 for the remainder of the game.
Maine outshot the Huskies 31-18, however went 0-for-6 on the power play while UConn was 2-for-7 with the advantage.
Black Bear goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) takes the loss for Maine, falling to 2-2-0 after making 15 saves. UConn goalie Nicole Paniccia picks up her first win of the season, stopping 31 shots improving her record to 1-3-0.
The Black Bears will return to action on Friday, October 28 against Northeastern at Alfond Arena at 2 p.m.
