Women's Soccer Falls at Hartford

The University Maine women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Hartford on Thursday afternoon in West Hartford, Conn. Maine falls to 4-7-1 on the season with the loss and 1-4-0 in America East play, while Hartford improves to 12-0-2 on the season and 5-0-0 in conference play.
Caitlin Alves gave Hartford a 1-0 lead at 19:43 when she received a long pass from Shealagh Begley and beat Maine keeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder with a shot to the low right corner. For Alves, it was her eighth goal of the season. The Hawks took the 1-0 lead into intermission.
Hartford added to its lead just 20 second into the second half. Alves intercepted a pass and got the ball to MaryBeth Hamilton. She deposited the ball into the net from seven yards out.
Alves capped the scoring at 62:25 when she scored on a header. Hamilton and Amelia Pereira each assisted on the goal.
Hartford finished the game with a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Price-Leibeneder made one save and falls to 4-7-1 on the season. Erin Quinlan stopped five shots for the Hawks. She improves to 12-0-2 on the season.
Carolyne Nellis (Quebec City, Quebec) led Maine with a pair of shots.
Maine returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 when it travels to Albany.
