Malone Nets Lone Goal for Black Bears

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University of Maine women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at the University at Albany on Sunday afternoon. Maggie Malone (Halifax, Nova Scotia) scored the lone goal for the Black Bears who fall to 4-8-1 on the season and 1-5-0 in America East play.
Albany stuck first, scoing just 10:25 into the match. Kendra Harrell-Vigil made a chip pass ahead to Chrissy Klepper who headed the ball. Katie Grant was able to redirect it past Maine keeper Meagan Price-Leibenzder (Surrey, British Columbia).
Maine tied the game at 18:29. Jordan Pellerin (Waterville, Maine) crossed the ball in front of the goal. Albany keeper Jacky Ubert missed the ball and Malone was able to knock it in for her first goal of the season.
Albany, 6-9-0 on th season and 4-2-0 in America East play, took the lead with two quick goals late in the first half. Casey Marks scored on a penalty kick at 33:11 and the goal proved to be the game-winner. Chelsea DeVerna added an insurance goal at 35:33 when she received a pass from Katie Dunn and beat Price-Leibenzeder.
The two teams played through a scoreless second half.
Price-Leibenzeder made four saves in goal for the Black Bears. She falls to 4-8-1 on the season. Ubert made a pair of saves for the Great Danes in the victory.
Albany finished the game with a 13-8 edge in shots.
Maine returns to action when its hosts Stony Brook in the final home game of the 2011 regular season on Thursday, Oct. 20. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 PM at Alumni Field. Maine will honor its seniors prior to the game.
