ORONO, Maine – Former Maine captain and interim head coach Susan Lizzotte has been named head coach of the University of Maine's men's and women's swimming and diving programs as announced by Director of Athletics Blake James on Monday.
"We are excited to have Susan continue to lead our swimming and diving programs." "She did a fine job leading the program as the interim head coach last season," said James. "I'm confident that the future of our swim program is in bright hands."
Lizzotte led Maine to a number of record-setting performances at the America East Championships in Boston. Freshman Jennifer Trodden broke the 200 IM school record on the second day of competition while Jeremey Bender, Meghann Fisher and Trodden all shattered records on day three. Fisher and Trodden wrapped up competition with another pair of record-breaking performances on the final day of the America East Championships.
Lizzotte is entering her eleventh overall season as a coach at Maine after finishing an outstanding career swimming for the Black Bears in 1999. A four-year MVP of the program, she won four America East individual event titles, set six school records and earned two scholar athlete awards.
Susan and her husband, Jaret, have two children, Jackson and Olivia.
