
Maine Divers Sweep America East Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A pair of University of Maine divers have been awarded the America East Male and Female Diver of the Week awards, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Freshman Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) has been named the Female Diver of the Week while fellow freshman Tim Smith (Bangor, Maine) has been honored as the Male Diver of the Week.
Capossela helped the Women's Swimming and Diving team to a third place finish as she swept the diving events at the URI Invitational over the weekend. She finished first in the one-meter event with 232.50 points and also won the three-meter event with a final point tally of 238.40. Capossela has now won the last eight diving events that she has entered.
Smith assisted the Men's team to a fouth place finish at the URI Invitational as he took home first place honors in the three-meter dive, racking up 223.55 points. Smith was second in the one-meter dive with a final point total of 246.40. This is the second Diver of the Week honor for Smith this season.
The Black Bears return to the pool Saturday, Dec. 11 at Bates College with a 1 p.m. meet scheduled.
